The couple, their closest relatives and specially invited guests, got a speech from Mayor Jens Kramer Mikkelsen, and they were presented with the gift from the Capital, a set of Holmegaard glasses for 60 persons.
The set of glasses consists of glasses for white wine, red wine, dessert wine, water and champagne. Anja Kjær has designed the glasses that are made especially for the bride and groom. Jens Kramer Mikkelsen emphasised the connection between the Capital and the Royal family, and he was pleased that this is the 21st century and not the Middle Age.
Fainted during wedding Christian III was worried about the pomp and circumstance displayed by the citizens when they gave their young away in marriage, the Mayor said.
Frederik II wrote in his diaries, that it was not unusual that the brides were so overdecorated with precious jewellery, that they fainted in the middle of the wedding party.
This made his son, Christian III, lay down rules that stated, that a wedding could only last for two days. Ordinary citizens were allowed to invite 12 pair of guests, while persons of a higher rank were allowed to invite 24 pair of guests to the party, as well as a few other friends.
Crown Prince Frederik told in his speech of thanks about his memories from earlier visits at the Copenhagen City Hall. Among other things, he used to study the various coats of arms in the ceiling and the walrus teeth displayed on the wall.
At the Copenhagen City Hall the menu consisted of more than 30 different dishes, among other things the traditional City Hall pancakes.
At the City Hall Square, around 40.000 spectators followed the visit, among those were many girls and boys dressed as Princes and Princesses.
